The modern capital of Turkey, Ankara, was also the center of Roman government for the province. The region was named after the Celtic tribes that had settled there from Gaul, (modern day France). It was into this area that Paul went with Barnabas on their first missionary journey. Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe were the cities of Southern Galatia where Paul established churches. It would be to these churches that he is now writing. The occasion of the letter was unfortunately unpleasant. Many of the Galatians had turned against Paul through the influence of false teachers who had come to town after PaulТs departure. These false teachers challenged PaulТs claim to apostleship, and contradicted his message of salvation by grace alone through faith alone. They taught that salvation was for Jews only. So in order for Gentiles to be saved they must become Jews by being circumcised and keeping the laws of Moses. They despised PaulТs message that Gentiles could be saved by simply believing in Jesus Christ and did their best to undermine it. Paul writes this letter in defense of both his apostleship and doctrine, and masterfully shows the fallacy of the false teachers, and the foolishness of those who have believed them. The doctrinal content of Galatians is very similar to the doctrinal content of Romans, and like Romans, Galatians played a significant role in the Reformation of the church in the 16th Century. The reformers brought the great truth of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, so powerfully expounded by Paul in Romans and Galatians, back into prominence after approximately 1200 years of obscurity. Galatians is important for us today because an understanding of the grace of God is vital to a healthy and spiritually prosperous Christian life. I. Paul and Apostle- Paul begins this letter by claiming for himself the very title which the false teachers were evidently denying him: Apostle. a. What is an Apostle? A special messenger, with a special status, enjoying an authority and commission that came from a body or person higher than himself. b. PaulТs apostleship was not from men but from God! c. The apostles of the N.T like the prophets of the O.T. were not expressing their personal opinions about God, they were speaking on GodТs behalf. Therefore to reject what the apostles said is to reject what God has said. II. Grace and Peace- III. The nature, object and origin of ChristТs death. a. The nature- a sacrifice for sin. b. The object- to rescue from this present evil age. УThe Bible divides history into two ages: Сthis ageТ and Сthe age to comeТ. It tells us, that the age to come has come already, because Christ inaugurated it, although this present age has not yet finally passed away. So the two ages are running their course in parallel. They overlap one another. Christian conversion means being rescued from the old age and being transferred into the new age, Сthe age to comeТ. And the Christian life is living in this present evil age the life of the age to come.Ф c. The origin- the will of God the father. Close: Living the life of the age to come. щ ы \ w к┐└ЎQIvаи¤√∙∙∙Ў∙CJ5БH*CJ P╨[ z { 2 3 ╚ ╔ [ \ ] ^ _ ` a b w ї Ў УФ╔╩^¤¤¤√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√ P╨[ z { 2 3 ╚ ╔ [ \ ] ^ _ ` a b w ї Ў УФ╔╩^йк┐└ЎўQRIJuvвгдежз褤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤2^йк┐└ЎўQRIJuvвгдежз褤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ РА░╨/ ░р=!░"░#Ра$Ра%░ i4@ё 4NormalCJOJPJQJmH <A@Є б<Default Paragraph Font*B@Є* Body TextCJ,>@,Title$a$5БCJ и        аzЩ   аzЩbи и ^и и ks}ДЖМТЧbcк be░╗ Т5 9 к :::   Brian Broderson^Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:Microsoft User Data:AutoRecovery save of Document1Brian Broderson?Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:No Other Gospel.docBrian Broderson?Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:No Other Gospel.docBrian BrodersonKMacintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:The Life of the Age to Come.doc- -]Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:SERMONS:Galatians:The Life of the Age to Come.doc @АbbLНlb`╝┘и @ @GРTimes New Roman5РАSymbol3Р Arial3РTimes qИЁ╨hШНД╞@l─;l─ {u!Ёе└┤┤А>0db ╪Ё  No Other GospelBrian Broderson- -■  рЕЯЄ∙OhлС+'│┘0tРШ░╝╘рЁ № $ 0 < HT\dl'No Other Gospelo OBrian BrodersonriaNormalr- -4-Microsoft Word 10.1@v▌A@zйW┬Э╚@Ш│Z%─@└l{┬Э╚{u■  ╒═╒Ь.УЧ+,∙о0 hpРШаи ░╕└╚ ╨ ь'CalvaryChapelCostaMesab No Other Gospel Title ■   ■   ■   !"#$%&'■   ¤   *■   ■   ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Root Entry         └FЎ4╓ЗЭ╚,А1Table        WordDocument        "SummaryInformation(    DocumentSummaryInformation8             CompObj            X                        ■                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           ■      └FMicrosoft Word Document■   NB6WWord.Document.8
