As we have said before, the world we see today, the world man has always known, is not the world God intended! It is a world that man ruined and continues to ruin through sin. It is a world that groans and travails longing to be delivered from the bondage to corruption or decay. “It is universal experience that all things, living or nonliving, eventually wear out, run down, grow old, decay, and pass into the dust. This condition is so universal that it was formalized into a fundamental scientific law, now called the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This law states that all systems, if left to themselves, tend to become degraded or disordered. Physical systems, whether clocks or suns, eventually wear out. Organisms grow old and die. Instead of all things being organized into complex systems—as they were in Creation Week, they are now being “unmade”, becoming disorganized and simple. Instead of life and growth, there is decay and death; instead of evolution, there is disintegration”. Herein is the secret of all that’s wrong with the world. Man is a sinner and has brought God’s curse on the earth. Let’s look at how God’s judgment affected man and the created order. I. To the woman- a. I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your travail… 1. It is difficult for women in lands influenced by the Gospel of Jesus Christ to realize the miseries their millions of sisters suffer in pagan lands, where the lot of women is little above that of cattle. b. In pain you shall bring forth children. 1. It seems to be that all other creatures bear their young relatively painlessly. c. Your desire shall be toward your husband and he shall rule over you. “The woman has the same sort of desire for her husband that sin has for Cain, a desire to possess or control him. This desire disputes the headship of the husband. As the Lord tells Cain what he should do, i.e., master or rule sin, the Lord also states what the husband should do, rule over his wife. The words of the Lord in Genesis 3:16b, as in the case of the battle between sin and Cain, do not determine the victor of the conflict between husband and wife. These words mark the beginning of the battle of the sexes. As a result of the fall, man no longer rules easily; he must fight for his headship. Sin has corrupted both the willing submission of the wife and the loving headship of the husband. The woman’s desire is to control her husband (to usurp his divinely appointed headship), and he must master her, if he can. So the rule of love founded in paradise is replaced by struggle, tyranny and domination” II. To the man- a. Cursed is the ground or earth… In toil (hard labor) you shall eat of it. b. Thorns and thistles… sweat of your brow… c. Dust to dust… Death! “Who can describe, who can conceive the number and severity of the punishments that afflict the human race- pains which are not only the accompaniment of the wickedness of godless men, but are a part of the human condition and the common misery- what fear and what grief are caused by bereavement and mourning, by losses and condemnations, by fraud and falsehood, by false suspicions, and all the crimes and wicked deeds of other men? For at their hands we suffer robbery, captivity, chains, imprisonment, exile, torture, mutilation, loss of sight, the violations of chastity to satisfy the lust of the oppressor, and many other dreadful evils. What numberless casualties threaten our bodies from without- extremes of heat and cold, storms, floods, inundations, lightening, thunder, hail, earthquakes, house falling; or from the stumbling or vice of horses; from the countless poisons in fruits, water air, animals; from the painful or even deadly bites of wild animals… What disasters are suffered by those who travel by land or sea! What man can go out of his own house without being exposed on all hands to unforeseen accidents? Returning home sound in limb, he slips on his own doorstep, breaks his leg, and never recovers. What can seem safer than a man sitting in his chair? Eli the priest fell from his, and broke his neck!” III. The results of Adam’s sin for mankind- a. Adam as federal head- Rom 5:12-14 b. Original sin or Imputed sin 1. Appointed as head or representative of his seed. 2. Acted on behalf of his seed. 3. Passed on to his seed the fruit of his actions. “No matter how hard people try to do away with male dominion, agonizing labor, painful childbearing, and death, these evils will continue because sin is present. They are the fruits of sin” c. Adam a type of Christ- Rom 5:18-19 Close: Did sin bring pain in childbirth? No one knew more pain than Jesus did when he, through his suffering, brought many sons to glory. Did thorns come with sin? Jesus endured a crown of thorns. Did sin bring sweat? Jesus sweat, as it were, great drops of blood in procuring our salvation. Did sin bring sorrow? Jesus became a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Did sin bring death? Jesus tasted death for everyone! $12ЛМ‡ ` Ž с / ХЦжj:;ŸЂЮшѓœvƒ‰*§њіњѓѓѓѓѓѓѓѓѓ№ѓѓ№ѓьѓ5CJCJCJ5CJCJ5$ЛМ‡ ˆ ќ § B C T U ` a Ž с т у ф х - / ХЦжњјјіјііііііііііііііііііііјіє$a$$ЛМ‡ ˆ ќ § B C T U ` a Ž с т у ф х - / ХЦжз#$PQijŸ ЁЂЮЯєѕIiœ[\‚ƒ)*§§§§ћ§јѕђяьщцурнкзјдбЮˆџџџЭџџџЮџџџњџџ њџџ! А"А# $ %А i4@ёџ4NormalCJOJPJQJmH 4`4 Heading 1$@&5CJ<A@ђџЁ<Default Paragraph Font*B`ђ* Body TextCJ* * џџџџ џџ z™ џџ z™ џџ z™хЂ*H,*ж**‘“,љ,j‘рDsŒ“,::::џџ- -^Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:Microsoft User Data:AutoRecovery save of Document1- -AMacintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Desktop:Cursed is the Earth.doci œ,QЛџОQЛџОQЛџОџ@€‘‘Є|l ‘Žу#*А @GTimes New Roman5€Symbol3 Arial3Times ёˆ№аhЏCЪfЁDЪfŸDЪfпŒ†!№ЅРДД€>0е№џџCursed is the Earth- -ўџ р…ŸђљOhЋ‘+'Гй0l˜ДРЬиш є ( 4 @LT\d'Cursed is the EarthursursursNormali- -1-Microsoft Word 10.1@њ'@"^ЏЎ)Щ@т€d)Щ@ЎфіЎ)ЩŒ†ўџ еЭеœ.“—+,љЎ0ш `hpx€ ˆ˜  Ј Ш'е Cursed is the Earth Title Document.8
