Here in the opening of JohnТs gospel we are told that the Word, Jesus Christ, is the one though whom the heavens and the earth were created. It is no accident that John goes straight from his statement about the relation between the Word and God to the phenomenon of creation. The self-communication of God occurs first in creation, and then ultimately in the incarnation. That is why creation and salvation are very closely connected in the New Testament. Both have to do with GodТs self-communication. The Apostle Paul made that same connection so beautifully when he said, УFor it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus ChristФ. It is only because there is life in the Logos that there is life in anything on earth at all. Life does not exist in its own right. There is one impassable chasm which neither history, nor science, nor philosophy can span, that is the gulf between nothing and something. This is not merely a cultural war, this is a spiritual battle, and just another manifestation of man s innate hostility toward God! Did you know that the US Supreme court has declared it unconstitutional to teach young earth creationism as fact in a public school classroom? In Britain, a friend of mine was recently told by an Anglican clergyman that he didn t know of one Anglican minister who believed in a literal interpretation of the Genesis creation account. Yet ironically, with all of the propaganda promoting evolutionism, and trying to discredit creationism, a recent CBS poll here in the US found that 51 percent of believed that God created man in his present form, and another 30 percent say that God used some sort of evolutionary process. In Britain, a recent BBC poll found that half the British population believe that God is responsible for life! I ll bet that sent Oxford professor Richard Dawkins through the roof. He thought it was only dumb Americans that still believed in God. As a matter of fact, Dawkins is so sure that evolution happened that he says its blasphemy to think or say otherwise! II. What about Evolution? A theory contradicted by the evidence- a. Observation and the fossil record support the Biblical account of reproduction after kind. b. The Ape man hoax. c.
