We live in a world of conflicting opinions regarding just about everything under the sun. Many of the issues that people debate are trivial and unworthy of most of the attention given to them, but, there are a few that are of vital importance. Questions like: Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going? How can I find happiness, peace, fulfillment and security? These are the big questions that still for most people haven’t been satisfactorily answered. Is it because there is no answer to these questions? No! It’s because people are listening to the wrong voices! They’re listening to the philosophers, the celebrities, the scientist and the religionist who are all themselves confused and arguing with and contradicting one another, instead of listening to the one who spoke and still speaks with astonishing authority, Jesus Christ. Let’s look at His authoritative word on these issues of vital importance- I. Where did I come from? Answer: From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. (Mk. 10:6) a. What about evolution? A theory contradicted by the evidence- 1. Fossil record supports Biblical account of reproduction after kind. 2. The Ape man hoax- Nebraska man, Java man, Piltdown man, Peking man. 3. Irreducible complexity seen in bio-chemistry. 4. Harvard University biochemist and Nobel Laureate, George Wald, ‘One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet we are here- as a result, I believe, of spontaneous generation… When it comes to the origin of life there are only two possibilities: Creation or spontaneous generation. There is no third way. Spontaneous generation was disproved one hundred years ago, but that leads us to only one other conclusion, that of supernatural creation. We cannot accept that on philosophical grounds; therefore, we choose to believe the impossible: that life arose spontaneously by chance!’ II. Why am I here? Answer: The first of all the commandments is: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength… And the second like it is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself… (Mk. 12:29-31) a. Conflicting voices- 1. Philosophers- life is meaningless, Celebrities- life is about pleasure, Psychologist- life is about discovering and loving one’s self. b. Jesus says life is about God. Loving him, obeying him, serving him. III. Where am I going? Answer: These (the unrighteous) will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. (Matt. 25:46) a. Conflicting voices- 1. Some say everybody goes to heaven, some say everyone is absorbed back into the universal spirit, others say you don’t go anywhere you simply cease to exist. b. Jesus said, I am he who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death. (Rev. 1:18) c. Question- who are you going to listen to, someone guessing or someone who’s been there? IV. How can I find happiness, peace, fulfillment and security? a. Blessed or happy are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Lk.11:28 b. Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and gentle in heart and you will find rest for your souls. Matt 11:28,29 c. Whoever drinks the water that I give will never thirst. Jn. 4:14 d. Whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospels will find it. Mk. 8:35 Close: With no ambiguity and no uncertainty Jesus answered life’s most vital questions. Those answers are true for all time, all people in all places. That’s a fact! You can stake your life on it! He who has an ear let him hear.
