He alone claimed to be the answer to all the hopes and fears of the human race. He said; “I am the Bread of Life, He who comes to me will never hunger and he who believes in me will never thirst”. He said; “I am the Light of the World, he who follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life”. He said; “I am the Resurrection and the Life, he who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in me shall never die”. He said; “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me”. The historian Philip Schaff wrote this concerning him: “Jesus of Nazareth without money and arms, conquered more millions than Alexander, Caesar, Muhammad and Napoleon; without science and learning, he shed more light on matters human and divine than all philosophers and scholars combined; without the eloquence of schools, he spoke such words of life as were never spoken before or since and produced effects which lie beyond the reach of orator or poet; without writing a single line, he set more pens in motion and furnished themes for more sermons, orations, discussions, learned volumes, works of art and songs of praise than the whole army of great men of ancient times and modern”. Because Jesus Christ is the greatest person in history, and so much more than that, we need to know him. For the better we know him the more we’ll love him, and the more we love him the better we’ll serve him. In the New Testament we have four gospels and each of them present Christ in a way that suits the particular group of people that they were wanting to communicate with. Matthew wrote his gospel with the Jew in mind and presents Jesus as the Messiah of Israel as promised by the Old Testament prophets. Luke wrote his gospel with the Greeks in mind and presents Jesus as the perfect man. John wrote with a universal purpose and presents Christ as the Word who was with God, and was God, and became a human being. Mark seems to have been writing with the Romans in mind. The Roman’s of course had conquered the world they were a people of action! The gospel of Mark is a fast paced, action filled account of the ministry of Jesus Christ the King of Kings. I. Good News- a. The good news of truth. “I AM the Truth” b. The good news of hope. Anchor of the soul. c. The good news of peace. Peace with God, peace of God. d. The good news of God’s promise. Men had always thought of a God of threats than a God of promises. All non-Christian religions think of a demanding God; only Christianity tells of a God who is more ready to give than we are to ask. e. The good news of immortality.
