Genesis 1 provides us with the answer to two of the most fundamental questions ever posed: Where did we come from? Why are we here? One of the on going philosophical issues that people grapple with is the issue of “purpose”. The question is; Does life have any real meaning? Well, let’s be honest. If the popular idea is accurate and we are nothing more than a cosmic accident, if our lives are nothing more than the outcome of random biological occurrences, then life is indeed meaningless, therefore, let us eat, drink and party for tomorrow we die! Yet, if we exist as a result of God’s creative genius and power, we can assume that God had a purpose in creating us and therefore, life has meaning! I. Genesis One, begins with the bold declaration that God is and that he created the universe. Verses 1-5 describe the first day of creation. a. Verses 6-8 describe the stretching out of the heavens on the second day of creation. b. Verses 9-13 describe the separation of the dry land form the seas, and the appearance of plant life on the third day. c. Verses 14-19 cover the activity of the fourth day. The placing of the sun, moon and stars in their proper place in the heavens. d. Verses 20-23 describe the creation of sea-life, fish, and birds on the fifth day. e. Verses 24-25 describe the creation of all the land animals on the sixth day. f. Verses 26-27 give the account of the creation of man. Seventh day rest! II. Evidences of intelligent design. a. Earth is just the right distance from the sun. If it were any closer of further, or if there was 1% more or less energy, the earth would be too hot to live on, or covered with ice. b. Earth tilted at 23 degrees. Without tilt the poles would be colder, the equator much hotter, and we would have half as much land as we do. Many plants and animals would die. c. Earth is just right size. Smaller earth, weakened gravity could not hold either our air or water. Thinner air would provide no protection from the 20,000 or so meteorites that rush toward the earth daily. Life could not exit. Larger earth, twice the size. Atmosphere pulled closer to surface, everything would weigh eight times as much, most living things would be crushed. d. Earth’s relation to moon. If the distance between the earth and the moon were any different, high tides would cover the land twice a day. e. The friendly planet. Out of the nine planets in our solar system, only upon earth can life exist. III. True confessions of the evolutionist. For those who dream of a better life, science has bad news: this is the best it is going to get. Our species has reached its biological pinnacle and is no longer capable of changing… “If you want to know what Utopia is like, just look around- this is it,” said Professor Steve Jones, of University College, London. Guardian. Nasa astronomer Robert Jastrow, ‘I am fascinated by some strange developments going on in astronomy- partly because of their religious implications and partly because of the peculiar reaction of my colleagues. The essence of the strange developments if that the universe had, in some sense, a beginning- that it began at a certain moment in time… Most remarkable of all, astronomers have found proof that the universe sprang into existence abruptly, in a sudden moment of creation, as the Bible said it did.’ ‘For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries.’ Nobel prize winning biologist Francis Crick, ‘An honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going’. Harvard University biochemist and Nobel Laureate, George Wald, ‘One has only to contemplate the magnitude of this task to concede that the spontaneous generation of a living organism is impossible. Yet we are here- as a result, I believe, of spontaneous generation… When it comes to the origin of life there are only two possibilities: Creation or spontaneous generation. There is no third way. Spontaneous generation was disproved one hundred years ago, but that leads us to only one other conclusion, that of supernatural creation. We cannot accept that on philosophical grounds; therefore, we choose to believe the impossible: that life arose spontaneously by chance!’ Sir Fred Hoyle, The likelihood of the formation of life from inanimate mater is one to a number with 40 thousands zeros after it. It is enough to bury Darwin and the whole theory of evolution. There was no primeval soup, neither on this planet nor on any other, and if the beginnings of life were not random they must therefore have been the product of purposeful intelligence.’ IV. Man made in God’s image. a. Not physical likeness. We must look for the resemblance to God chiefly in man’s spiritual nature. His freedom of will, his self-consciousness, his reasoning power, his sense of that which is above nature, the good, the true, the eternal; his conscience, which is the voice of God within him, his capacity for knowing God and having communion with Him; in a word, in all that allies him to God, all that raises him above sense and time and merely material considerations, all that distinguishes him from, and elevates him above the beast. b. Reasoning powers- Creativity, buildings, electronic gadgets of every sort, cars, airplanes, space shuttles. Poems, and plays, and songs and pictures all demonstrate man’s creative ability. Civilization is man’s creation and a proof of his being created in the intellectual image of God. c. Moral consciousness- The great distinction between right and wrong belongs to man alone. “I fully subscribe to the judgment of those writhers who maintain that, of all the differences between man and the lower animals, the moral sense or conscience is be for the most important, This sense is summed up in the short but imperious word, ‘ought’, so full of high significance. It is the most noble of all the attributes of man”. Darwin Biology cannot explain this fact. d. Spirituality- Man alone is a worshiper! Close: Man was created for fellowship with God. That is the purpose of human existence. That is where we discover the meaning of life. Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they might know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”. Do you know him? Would you like to? Here’s how you can… A œ H v Г Э .HНг!Lˆ’“ГШѕї6&3˜Ј1LPfuб$*,NOzЏ Б Д Е ћјћєёєћёэёэёэёэёэёєычхххххєёёёыёёєёћх56CJ6>*CJCJ5CJCJ5CJ2 џ‘ІЇ= > Ь Э % & Ÿ   % & { | Ь Э §јјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјј$a$ џ‘ІЇ= > Ь Э % & Ÿ   % & { | Ь Э D E § ў Џ А –*+ЙК !LM’“Г‘ЧШѕії6—˜Ј12PQtuNOz{v w Џ А Б Г Д Е §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ћљљљљљљљљљљљљљљ§§ O D E § ў Џ А –*+ЙК !LM’“Г‘ЧШѕії6њњњјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјј$a$6—˜Ј12PQtuNOz{v w Џ А Б Г Д Е §§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§јјѓ$a$$a$ 1hАа/ Ар=!А"А# $ %А i(@ёџ( NormalCJmH <A@ђџЁ< Default Paragraph Font,>@ђ, Title$a$5CJ$Е0џџџџ џџ z™ џџ z™ џџ z™ џџ z™ШzЕ%-Е 6Е Е !“ — Њ Б 04ЗnrIM#–Г АЕcq$3З::::::::џџBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian BrodersenOC:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\AutoRecovery save of Genesis One.asdBrian Brodersen9C:\My Documents\Key Chapters of the Bible\Genesis One.docBrian Broderson]Macintosh HD:Users:brianbrodersen:Documents:SERMONS:Key Chapters of the Bible:Genesis One.docБЗџ@€8`}мЕ@ @GTimes New Roman5€Symbol3 Arial"qˆ№аhƒ[b&–хЇІ•хЇІм .!№ ДД20 _2ƒ№џџ(The Key Chapters of the Bible: Genesis 1Brian BrodersenBrian Brodersonўџ р…ŸђљOhЋ‘+'Гй0А˜ дрј 8D ` l x „˜ Ј')The Key Chapters of the Bible: Genesis 1 Wohe Brian BrodersenriariaNormalrBrian Broderson4iaMicrosoft Word 10.1@zы(@ЦЧЮВЦ@šК|?ГС@ нъЮВЦмўџ еЭеœ.“—+,љЎ0 hpˆ˜  ЈАИР Ш §'Calvary Chapelp. )The Key Chapters of the Bible: Genesis 1 Title Document.8
