Through GodТs commandments we see his love and care for us, we see his concern for us to live healthy, happy lives physically, emotionally and spiritually. Think of the simple command to rest on the seventh day, or the dietary laws that God gave to Israel. The New Testament tells us to be moderate in all that we do. We know that excessive habits are behind so many of our physical and emotional problems. The Bible often connects human suffering and misery with wrong living. Listen to what the Lord said concerning Israel: Oh, that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways! I would soon subdue their enemies, And turn My hand against their adversaries. Ps 81:13-14 Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Your descendants also would have been like the sand, And the offspring of your body like the grains of sand Isa 48:18-19 Look, all you who kindle a fire, Who encircle yourselves with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks you have kindled-- This you shall have from My hand: You shall lie down in torment. Isa 50:11 The ultimate end of a lifestyle that is contrary to GodТs prescribed lifestyle is misery, or torment as the Lord said through Isaiah. God wants us to live a good life, and the verses here in Leviticus tell us how to do just that. I. You shall not do according to the doings of the Egyptians or the Canaanites. a. They did what was right in their own eyes. They were a law unto themselves. Man was the measure. 1. Hetero-Sexual promiscuity- verses 6-20 2. Sacrificed their children to idols- verse 21 3. Endorsed sexual perversion, homosexuality and bestiality- 18:22-23, 20:13,15,16 4. Corrupt judicial system Ц 19 verse 15 5. Practiced occultism Ц 19:31, 20:6,27 b. Things havenТt changed any. 1. Hetero-sexual promiscuity rampant! 22million known aids cases in Africa. 1.5 million known cases in US. Largely due to sexual promiscuity. UNТs solution, condoms! Recent research coming out of Britain shows that condoms increase the spread of AIDS! 2. Children sacrificed to idolsЕ drug babies and children, HollywoodТs philosophy shoved down throats. Materialism, Divorce, Parents fighting against creationism etc. 3. Homosexuality/Pornography-Internet. Gay and Lesbian club/ Tolerance seminars. The Gay mythsЕ 1in10, happy, healthy etc. 4. Corrupt judicial system. CanТt pray at public school sporting events, canТt sing Christmas carols, banning nativity scenes and crosses. 5. Occultism- movies (Practical magic), books (Harry Potter), horoscopes etc. c. Love not the worldЕ II. I am the Lord your God. a. We have someone above us. Man is not the measure, but God and his law are the standard. GodТs word final authority for faith and practice! b. Observe/keep/do continually Close: But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
