The Year of Jubilee Leviticus 25:8-10 Introduction: The year of Jubilee speaks of the liberation and restoration that the world will experience under the reign of Christ. Peter tells us that the second coming of Christ will introduce the times of the restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. Paul tells us that when Christ returns the creation itself will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. As we look around the world today we dont have to look far to see that bondage and corruption mark virtually every aspect of life. In some places and situations its more obvious than in others, but whatever the case bondage and corruption are appropriate terms in describing mans history from the beginning to where we are today in the year 2007 A.D. Heres the good news, the year of Jubilee is coming, and thats what we want to talk about today. Lets look together at what we have to look forward to when our Lord Jesus returns. There are three areas that well consider: The realm of nature, society, and our own personal experience. I. Nature- all that is negative, harmful, and unproductive in nature is a result of the curse that came because of Adams sin. When Christ returns the effects of the curse will be to a large degree, removed. a. Jesus will solve all the worlds ecological problems. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree Isa 35: 6-7, 55:12-56:1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east Then he said to me: "This water flows toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea. When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine." Ezek 47:1-2, 8-10,12 b. Jesus will solve the animal rights issue. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play by the cobras hole and the weaned child shall put his hand in the vipers den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Isa 11:6-9 c. Jesus will solve the worlds health problems. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing. Isa 35:5-6 I will give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Isa 61:3 He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all facesIsa 25:8 II. Society- all thats wrong in society is the result of man trying to live without God. a. Jesus will establish a righteous reign over all the earth. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, prince of peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. His delight is in the fear of the Lord, and he shall not judge by the sight of his eyes, nor decide by the hearing of his ears; But with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity of the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, and faithfulness the belt of his waist. Isa 9:6-7, 11:1-5 b. Jesus will bring an end to war. He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nations, neither shall they learn war anymore. Isa 2:4 c. Jesus will implement a new educational system. Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lords house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and nations shall flow to it. Many people shall come and say, come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach of his ways, and we shall walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Isa 2:1-3 d. Jesus shall bring about a perfect society. They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit. They shall not build and another inhabit; they shall not plant and another eat; For as the days of a tree, so shall be the days of my people, and my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth children for trouble In that day says the Lord of host, everyone will invite his neighbor under his vine and under his fig tree. Isa 65:21-23 Zech 3:10 III. Our personal experience when Christ returns- a. Jesus will give us a glorified body. Jesus Christ will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to his glorious bodyHis body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lighting, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude. Phil 3:20 Dan 10:6 b. We will rule and reign with Christ. He who overcomes I will give power over the nations- he shall rule them with a rod of iron; they shall be dashed to pieces like the potters vessels as I also received from my fatherThey shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads And they shall reign forever and ever.
