Jesus being Mary s firstborn son and belonging not to the tribe of Levi but of Judah, had to be exempted from official temple service by the payment of five shekels of silver& The underlying idea of the redemption ritual was this: in the night of Israel s deliverance from the house of bondage all firstborn Egyptians were slain. However, in God s holy sight not only the Egyptians but also the Israelites had forfeited their lives. In place of death God was willing to accept from the tribe of Levi lifelong service in the tabernacle, and from the firstborn of the other tribes five shekels, as a symbolic offering. Simeon- a man full of the Holy Spirit I. My eyes have seen thy salvation- Salvation is a person! II. Salvation for all people! a. A light of lighten the Gentiles- "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, my Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; he will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; he will bring forth justice for truth. He will not fail nor be discouraged, till He has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands shall wait for His law." Thus says God the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it: "I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles, To open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the prison, those who sit in darkness from the prison house. Isa 42:1-7 "Listen, O coastlands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; from the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name. And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, and made Me a polished shaft; in His quiver He has hidden Me." "And He said to me, 'You are My servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified.' Then I said, 'I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; yet surely my just reward is with the LORD, and my work with my God.'" "And now the LORD says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, to bring Jacob back to Him, so that Israel is gathered to Him (for I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and My God shall be My strength), Indeed He says, 'It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.'" Isa 49:1-6 b. The Glory of Israel - The pupil of Moses may ask himself, whether all the princes of the house of David have done so much for the Jews as that prince who was crucified on Calvary. Had it not been for Him, the Jews would have been comparatively unknown, or only as a high Oriental caste which had lost its country. Has not He made their history the most famous in the world? Has not He hung up their laws in every temple? Has He not vindicated all their wrongs? Has not He avenged the victory of Titus and conquered the Caesars? What successes did they anticipate from their Messiah? The wildest dreams of their rabbis have been far exceeded& Christians may continue to persecute Jews (and by doing so misrepresent their Master) and Jews may persist in disbelieving Christians, but who can deny that Jesus of Nazareth, the Incarnate Son of God, is the eternal glory of the Jewish race? Benjamin Disraeli III. Fall and rising of many in Israel a. Israel b. True of every man. A person s attitude toward Jesus determines their eternal destiny. A man will either fall into the abyss of eternal darkness, or rise up to God s heaven based on his attitude toward Jesus Christ. c. Individuals - We must fall before we can rise. Die before we can live. Humble ourselves before we can be exalted. IV. A Sign spoken against- Signs tell us things. Jesus Christ is God s sign telling us: a. We are sinners. b. Our sins have damned us. c. Our works are worthless. d. Only the cross can save us. Again, we see the gospel slays us before it heals us, and thus we see the reason for the hostility to it. V. Hearts revealed. a. The true condition of the heart is revealed by one s attitude to Jesus Christ. Close: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner& Whoever falls upon this stone shall be broken; but on whomever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. Lk 20:18 When we come to Christ he breaks us in order to remake us in His image. He humbles us so He can exalt us. Have you come to Him and been broken? †œвёџвNormalE$$$ЄЄd№*$1$@& ]„^„`„$a$-DMЦ џџe568:;<7S*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphsH mH tH _HH*>*KHEHaJfHqЪ џџDAђџЁDDefault Paragraph FontdiѓџГd Table Normal.aіі4ж4ж) 0 00# $ АаАаАа/ Ар=!А "А ^`zˆКМ ’ ” о р т & V X Z ” – ˜ о р т ОРœžšœ02>lїышхтмйгЭЪФУКЗБУЈœУ™“УŠ‡~xuolfcZCJOJPJQJCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJCJOJPJQJphCJOJPJQJ CJphCJCJOJPJQJ CJphCJ CJph CJphCJ CJphCJCJCJCJ$OJPJQJphCJ$OJPJQJ"lnp^`bdfВДтф„†ТФtvдўŽ’ТФ†$Ј$Њ$Ќ$ј$њ$ќ$%%%Ш&§їєюэээъфсливЯЩЦРНДБЋЅЂœ™–Šuolf`]CJ CJph CJphCJ CJphCJOJPJQJphCJOJPJQJ CJph CJphCJCJ CJphCJ CJph CJphCJCJOJPJQJCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ CJphCJ#Ш&Ъ&Ь&`'b'Ж'И'К'М'ю'j(l((’(”(Ъ(Ь(Ю()))D)F)H)***F*H*J*ь*њєёыштмжЭЪФСЛЕВЌІЃ—”Žˆ…ypdXUCJCJOJPJQJphCJOJPJQJphCJOJPJQJ CJph CJphCJ CJph CJphCJ CJph CJphCJ CJph CJphCJ CJph CJphCJ CJphCJCJOJPJQJ CJph CJph CJphCJ CJphCJ CJph CJphь*ю*№*ў*x,ˆ,Š,Ј-Њ-Ќ-Ў-А-В-Д-Ж-єшпмйгаЪФИВm('ˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџ CJphCJOJPJQJph CJph CJphCJ CJphCJCJCJOJPJQJCJOJPJQJphCJOJPJQJphЖ-И-К-М-О-Р-Ф-ЛКuК0Кˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџФ-Ц-Лˆ568:;<79XTS*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphџRHdsHmHtH_HH*>*KHEHwhџ *ehrЪџfHqЪ џџ`zМ’ ” р т X Z – ˜ р т Рžœ2p`bdfДф†Фvњјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјјј$a$v’ФЊ$Ќ$њ$ќ$%%Ъ&Ь&b'И'К'М'l(’(”(Ь(Ю())F)H)**H*J*ю*§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§§ю*№*Š,Њ-Ќ-Ў-А-В-Д-Ж-И-К-М-О-Р-Ф-Ц-§§§§§§§ћ§ћ§ћ§ћ§§l4ж4жl (kєџС(No ListЬўёџђЬ Free FormE$$$ЄЄd№*$1$@& ]„^„`„$a$-DMЦ џџY568:;<7S*CJOJPJQJ@ˆphsH mH H*>*KHEHfHqЪ џџу.џџџџ lШ&ь*Ж-Ф-Ш-vю*Ш- џџUnknownџџу`iTimes New RomanTimes New RomanESymbolSymbolA&ArialArialaв0щ0Ў0Ю0в‰Д0 Pro W3в0щ0Ў0Ю0в‰Д0 Pro W3}Times New Roman BoldTimes New Roman Bold#ˆаhєƒйfєƒйf!€#@(0Root Entryџџџџџџџџ€>еоБ€—№o 7Ъ2€1TableАЩрЩџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7ЪWordDocumentџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7ЪBData џџџџџџџџџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7Ъ)ўџеЭеœ.“—+,љЎDеЭеœ.“—+,љЎ|8 ( 0щ§ ўџр…ŸђљOhЋ‘+'Гй0x (`щ§0A Light to the Gentiles and the Glory of Israel Skip HeitzigSummaryInformation(џџџџџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7ЪЈDocumentSummaryInformation8џџџџџџџџџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7ЪObjectPoolџџџџџџџџџџџџ€—№o 7Ъ€—№o 7Ъџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџ€>еоБ€>еоБџџџџўџџџўџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџџ # !"
