In Proverbs we read, Apply your heart to understanding lift up your voice for understanding in all your getting get understanding Paul prayed, that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened, and, that we would be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. In Lukes gospel we read concerning Jesus that He opened the understanding of the disciples that they might comprehend the scriptures. Here in our text Paul tells us not to be children in understanding but to be mature. Today I want to look at four things that we as Christians need to understand: The Grace of God. Grace, Gods unmerited favor, Gods mercy, forgiveness etc. Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? (Misconceptions about grace.) The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present age, looking for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for himself his own special people zealous for good works. The Will of God. The Word of God is the revelation of the will of God. Salvation and Sanctification is where Gods will starts. (Man whos personal life was a mess so he thought maybe God was calling him to be a pastor.) Be a real Christian- husband/wife, dad/mom, son/daughter, friend/neighbor, employee/employer etc. The more specific details of Gods will come as we walk in his general will. Things like specific spiritual gifts etc. The Call of God. Make disciples of all nations (ethnos) Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you. (Festival of Life) The Love of God. Greater love has no man than this. The Love of Christ that transcends knowledge. The love of Christ constrains me. Close: Faithfully, prayerfully meditate on Gods word and youll be a man or woman of great spiritual understanding!
