The war in Iraq and Afghanistan. 2. The nuclear threat from North Korea and Iran. 3. The fear of biological and chemical warfare. 4. The spread of radical Islam and the rise of global terrorism. 5. The resurgence of Communism. 6. A world wide economic meltdown, a viral pandemic, forecast of ecological disaster, signs of social upheaval, rising crime rates etc. 7. Not to mention personal concerns like families falling apart, finances faltering and health failing. b. Its enough to make you worried sick! And many are! 18.8 million American adults suffer from clinical depression. 35 million Americans suffer from depression server enough to warrant treatment. 19.1 million Americans suffer from anxiety disorder. Many of the people who suffer from depression also suffer from anxiety (and vice versa). But thats not to be the case with us. Jesus said, Let not your heart be troubled, or more literally, Stop letting your heart be troubled. How? Here in our text Jesus gives us the remedy for a troubled heart. You believe in God, believe also in Me. 1. Have faith in Jesus. Trust Him. a. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominion or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And he is before all things and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church. b. God has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by himself purged our sins set down at the right hand of the Majesty on High. c. Hes got the whole world in His hands / Ill fear no evil / for you are with me / strong to deliver / mighty to save / Hes got the whole world in His hands Tim Hughes In My fathers house are many mansions I go to prepare a place for you. 2. Heaven is our home. a. Our citizenship is in heaven Waiting for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things that are above Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. b. A strange thing is occurring in the church today. Many Christian leaders are now telling us that weve been too heavenly minded, and that we need to start being much more mindful of the things here on earth. Their hot topics are things like: social justice, eradication of poverty, saving the environment etc. For millions of young adults who have recently dropped out of church, Christianity is a failed religion. Why? Because it has specialized in dealing with spiritual needs to the exclusion of physical and social needs. It has focused on me and my eternal destiny, but is has failed to address the dominant societal and global realties of their lifetime; systemic injustice, poverty, and dysfunction. Brian McLaren The problem here is theres no precedent for this kind of thing found anywhere in the New Testament. The Scriptures tells us that the world is passing away the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Im not saying that we shouldnt be involved in helping the poor or trying to bring about social justice if possible but that is not to be our primary focus. Jesus said, You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. By just being who you are in Christ youll have a godly effect on the culture. Pray, worship, love God, love neighbor as self, be led by the Spirit etc. c. The truly heavenly minded people are the most earthly good! Were going to heaven, thats our real home. d. What is heaven like? Fullness of joy, pleasure forevermore. Actually, indescribable! Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it. There was a real railway accident your father and mother and all of you are as you used to call it in the Shadowlands dead. The term is over: the holidays have begun. The dream is ended: this is the morning. And as He spoke He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this is the end of all stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on forever: in which every chapter is better than the one before. CS Lewis I will come again and receive you to myself. 3. The Lord is coming again! a. All these potentially troubling things are just reminding us that Christs return is near and soon well be with Him. b. When you see these things begin to come to pass, look up and lift up your heads Close: Are you troubled today? Are you filled with worry and anxiety? Trust Jesus, Set your hope on heaven, Remember the Lord is coming and were all going to be with him forever. +13jI} , CM6eRXh>h>5CJh wh>CJ h>CJ h>CJ h>CJh>h>CJ h>5h> h>5CJ +kl3STFG + , m n ? @ $a$ NOPQ\]IJ6gd>67deQR 1h/ =!"#$%@@@ NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DA@D Default Paragraph FontZiZ Table Normal :V 4 l4a _H(k(No List HH Balloon TextCJOJQJ^JaJ6B@6 Body Text5CJ6P@6 Body Text 2CJ(!z z zN+kl3STFG+,mn?@NOPQ \ ] IJ67deQR 0000000P00P00P00P00000000P00P00P00P0000000000000000000000000000P00000000P00P00P00000000P0000P00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000P000000000000000+3SFG+,mn?@NO _ 0@E_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@_ 0@ 6x hsNT JL :::::@0p @UnknownGTimes New Roman5Symbol3 Arial5 Tahoma"qhl&tmmm 4 -!>4diNs 3QH6Don t be troubledBrian BrodersenBrian Brodersen Oh+'0 , L X d p|'Dont be troubledBrian BrodersenNormalBrian Brodersen10Microsoft Word 11.5.0@8P@.ߪ@N@"ګ ՜.+,0 hp 'Calvary Chapel CM- i Dont be troubled Title !"#$%&')*+,-./2Root Entry Fk9q41Table}WordDocument"(SummaryInformation( DocumentSummaryInformation8(CompObjX FMicrosoft Word DocumentNB6WWord.Document.8
