What I am talking about is doing ministry in a way that enhances the possibility of people coming into the church and staying rather than hindering that possibility. In the past I ve called this teaching,  Practical Steps to Help your Church Grow . A better title might be:  Practical steps to help you avoid hindering your church from growing ! There are two sides to the ministry, the divine and the human. God works independent of man, but He also works in conjunction with man. This is true in the life and growth of a church as well. I believe that many churches have been stymied in their growth because they haven t taken into consideration the human aspect of the ministry. I have heard, and perhaps you have too, people suggest that any sort of disciplined or structured approach to the ministry is tantamount to quenching the Spirit. Not so! God is a God of order and impeccable timing, He s the God of infinite detail and we who are in the ministry should remember that as we conduct our ministries. I have been to Calvary Chapels where the way the pastor s were dressed, or the way the service was run, or the way the facility was kept (or should I say un-kept) gave the impression that no one took seriously or really cared about what they were doing. That s not right and that mentality should never be found among us. In looking at doing ministry right or  Excellence in Ministry I want to consider three things, the pastor, the worship service and the facility, and see how a wise approach to the human side of ministry can enhance the work of God in our midst. I. The Pastor- a. Well prepared. The pastor who says, I don t need to study, I just let the Spirit lead, really doesn t have a clue and probably shouldn t be pastoring. 1. Biblically- Study to show ourselves approved& rightly dividing the word of truth. 2. Intellectually- make sure we have our facts straight. Do your own research! 3. Verbally- develop your vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. Give examples: Satan- Saintan, tyranny- tieranny. Chuck s observation, to-ta. Chuck s observation of John s pronunciation, accusation-accuasation. b. Well groomed- c. Flexible- Don t say I ll never where a suit, or I only where jeans etc. d. Broad- accommodate as many different types of people as possible. II. The Worship Service- a. Time- punctuality.  If the Lord wants us to start on time he ll have to get the people here earlier . Wrong!!! Order of service- c. Music- A Ca Pella over unskilled musician. d. Ushers  friendly, helpful etc. III. Facility- a. Clean and well kept. London, Costa Mesa.
